KENTUCKY’S FOREST FIRE HAZARD FALL SEASON BEGAN OCTOBER 1 AND RUNS THROUGH DECEMBER 15, SO THE CITY OF OAK GROVE WANTS ALL RESIDENTS TO BE AWARE OF THE LOCAL BURN LAWS
The Kentucky Division of Forestry is mandated by law to provide organized fire protection carried out by wildland fire detection, suppression, and law enforcement carried out by nine districts throughout the state. If you’re a resident of Oak Grove or another community in Kentucky, check out the information below.
During fire season
- It is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland, or brushland between 6am-6pm.
Important information to follow
- Before conducting any outdoor burning, citizens should check with their local fire department and county government for restrictions and local ordinances.
- It is illegal to burn garbage or other material, except natural plant matter (brush and woody debris).
- Visit the Division for Air Quality for more information.
Safety tips to follow if you must burn
- Contact your local fire department or KY Department of Forestry office.
- Beware of power lines, trees, and structures near your fire.
- Have water and hand tools (shovel and/or rake) available.
- Clear all flammable materials, such as dry leaves and grass, from around the fire.
- Burn when the humidity is high, and the wind is calm.
- Have communication available or someone nearby who can call for help in case of an emergency.
- Stay with the fire until it is completely out.
Other burning laws may apply, so be sure to check local ordinances and the KY Divisions of Air Quality and Waste Management before conducting any outdoor burning.
